Bananas Foster French Toast

It’s been a while since I had some French Toast…it used to be one of my favorite weekend breakfast meals – soft boiled eggs have become a staple in my morning routine instead. Well I had a craving for something a little decadent so I whipped up a batch of these delicious French Toast and added Bananas Foster on top as a special treat!

Bananas Foster French Toast

1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 slices of bread
2 tablespoons butter
1 banana, sliced
1-2 teaspoons raw sugar
1 tablespoon vodka (optional)

Whisk the egg, milk and vanilla together in a shallow dish. Dip the bread into the egg mixture. Melt one tablespoon of the butter in a heated skillet. Lightly brown the bread in the melted butter on both sides. Meanwhile, melt the second tablespoon of butter in a second skillet. Lightly brown the banana slices on both sides. Sprinkle banana with sugar (substitute with brown sugar if desired) and allow to caramelize for a minute or two. Pour the vodka in and light with a match (optional!). Plate the French Toast and top with the Bananas Foster. Dig in!

Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Bernadette! It follows the ‘traditional’ Bananas Foster style of adding liquor then lighting it on fire to burn off the alcohol. You don’t have to add the vodka if you don’t want – it’s good for a show if you have company and want to impress! 😄
