I first had a Croque Madame during our visit to Paris a few years ago and loved it! Today I’m sharing my version with a slight difference to the one I had – I’ve added Fontina cheese in addition to the classic Gruyère cheese bringing an even more nutty flavor to this delicious lunch…
Croque Madame
2 fresh bakery croissants
4 slices deli ham
1/4 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
1/4 cup shredded Fontina cheese
2 eggs
salt & fresh ground pepper
Heat oven to 400°F. Slice croissants in half. Pile bottom half of croissants with the deli ham and half of the shredded cheeses. Place the top half of the croissant on and sprinkle tops with remaining shredded cheese. Bake in heated oven until cheese melts and croissants become slightly crispy (~4 minutes). Meanwhile, fry two eggs. Remove croissants from oven and place eggs on top. Season with salt and fresh ground pepper. Serve hot.
Enjoy!
