April Fools!

donut turkey

Okay, So it’s April 1st and we all know what that means. I’m not big on pranks, so I decided to make a spin on dessert. I saw this concept years ago in some magazine to surprise your kids. Well today I decided to make it. I based my recipe on my turkey meatloaf, but without the regular green herbs. That would be a dead give away. So the seasoning for this dish is all about the disguise. My children will find this most amusing, because I don’t eat donuts. I call them DO NOT’s, do not eat the donuts.

Turkey Donuts
1 lb ground turkey
1 egg
½ cup grated Parmesan
¼ cup fresh bread crumbs
½ tsp garlic salt
½ tsp onion powder
1 Tbs tomato paste
3 mini peppers in a variety of colors
¼ lb of American cheese

Mix the ingredients together and form into the shape of donuts. Place in freezer for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 425°F. Remove turkey from freezer and spray a cooking rack that fits over a cookie sheet. Spray turkey with cooking spray and cook for 10 minutes on 425°F and then turn the oven down to 350°F. Cook for an additional 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and strategically place cut out cheese on turkey. Cook for 5 more minutes. Remove from oven and set aside.

Prepare mashed potatoes with only salt and pepper (pepper looks like vanilla beans) and use ice cream scooper to spoon on plate. Top with a beef gravy to look like caramel sauce. You can fool them again when you bring out the veggies for real!

Enjoy!
