I was in the mood for grilled cheese and I had a bowl full of pears, so I just decided…Why Not?! Wow… what a tasty lunch. My hubby and I really enjoyed this savory sandwich with a little bit of sweet. The grainy bread gave it the perfect bite of nutty too.
Smoked Turkey & Pear Grilled Cheese On Multi Grain Bread
4 slices multi grain bread
1 pear
1/2 sweet onion
3 Tbs butter
8 slices Swiss cheese sliced thin
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
8 slices good smoked turkey
Melt 1 Tbs of butter. Slice the onion and pear very thin. In a medium skillet, sauté the onion and pear very lightly on medium low until the onions are tender and the pears slightly cook.
Heat a cast iron skillet on medium low. Butter the outside of the 4 slices of bread and lay in the cast iron skillet. Layer the bread each with two slices of Swiss, 1/8 cup cheddar, two slices of the smoked turkey and several slices of the sautéed pears. Top only one side of the slices with the onions. Put the slice without the onions on top of the slice with onions. Grill one side, flip and grill the other side. Weigh down if you have one, (it’s not necessary, just makes a nice crust).
Serve alone or with a little bowl of soup.
Enjoy!
