Athens Burger with Tzatziki

It’s Burger Time! On today’s menu? Athens Burgers with Tzatziki…a perfect blend of Greek spices merged with ground lamb, tucked into a pita and topped with Tzatziki sauce, thinly sliced red onions and cucumber. If you love Gyros from the boardwalk you’re gonna love these tasty burgers.

Athens Burger with Tzatziki
1 lb ground lamb
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh dill
1/4 teaspoon ground thyme
1/2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 garlic clove minced
Tzatziki sauce (recipe below)
Pita Bread with pockets
red onion slices
lettuce leaves
feta cheese in block form, sliced
cucumber slices

Combine the lamb, oregano, basil, parsley, salt, dill, thyme, olive oil and garlic in a medium bowl. Shape into burgers. Place on a grill pan and cook 4-6 minutes each side.Β Meanwhile make the Tzatziki Sauce…

Tzatziki Sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons freshly shredded unpeeled cucumber, drained
1 cup full fat plain Greek yogurt
1 small clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly chopped dill

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Whisk gently. Refrigerate until ready to use.

To assemble Athens Burgers with Tzatziki: Fill the open pita pocket with freshly sliced red onion, lettuce leaves, grilled lamb burger, feta cheese slices, cucumber slices and Tzatziki sauce.
