Classic Sloppy Joes

Classic Sloppy Joes

This is another one of those classics I’ve been making for over thirty years…the good ‘ole sloppy joe. Every summer, like clockwork, this recipe gets pulled from the archives and made again and again. Ready in under twenty minutes with minimal prep…so easy and yet so tasty!

Classic Sloppy Joes
1 lb ground beef-pork-veal mix
1 yellow onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup ketchup
4 soft snowflake rolls
mayonnaise (optional)
cheese slices (optional)

In a large skillet heat the ground beef mixture with the diced onion and minced garlic in a little olive oil. Sauté 10 minutes until beef is cooked through and onion is tender. In a small bowl, whisk the brown sugar, white wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, salt & ketchup. Pour into the skillet and mix well to combine all the flavors with the cooked meat. Put a lid on the skillet; reduce heat and simmer a minimum of 10 minutes.

Slice the snowflake rolls and slather on a little mayonnaise (if using). Scoop on the Sloppy Joe mixture and top with a slice of cheese (if using) and the top bun. Serve with a side of chips!
