Magic Cookie Squares

Magic Cookie Squares

Sometimes I like to check out restaurant menus to get ideas for dinner and desserts. The other day I was perusing the menu from Fuego Tortilla Grill in Texas – never been there but would love to visit one day…on the dessert menu I saw Magic Cookies with graham cracker crust, condensed milk, chocolate chips, shaved coconut and chopped pecans…sounded incredibly delicious! Come to find out that the original recipe came from Eagle Brand condensed milk. I’ve made a few adjustments to the original recipe, but they’re truly decadent!

Magic Cookie Squares
1 1/2 cups crushed Graham crackers
1 stick butter, melted
14 oz condensed milk
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup shredded coconut flakes

Heat oven to 350 °F. Grease a 13″ x 9″ baking pan. Place the crushed graham crackers in a mixing bowl and add the melted butter. Press the buttery graham cracker mixture into the greased baking pan. Pour the condensed milk over the crust and spread evenly.

Sprinkle the white chocolate chips and the milk chocolate chips over the condensed milk. Spread the chopped pecans over the chocolate chips; follow up with the shredded coconut. Using a spatula, press the entire mixture down into the baking dish.

Bake for 25 minutes then cover with aluminum foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes. Yes, I know the original recipe said 25 minutes – but they were no way near ready at 25 minutes – Use your best judgement! I had one with a cup of French Vanilla tea….truly decadent…

Enjoy!

  1. I made these when I was a kid – we called them 7 layer bars. If memory serves, we used butterscotch chips instead of white chocolate, although I often throw in whatever I have (and sometimes more layers, too.) These look amazing and have brought back so many good memories! Thanks for bringing this by Throwback Thursday!

  2. These are so attractive to look at and, as you say, Linda, quite decadent! I’m not sure whether we have graham crackers over here, but I’m sure there’ll be some equivalent. Re. your comment above, I can’t see them lasting very long in any house! 🙂

    1. I know – I know!! But I’m lucky enough to be able to make these wonderful treats and eat only one – cause I’ve got boys to scarf down all the rest!! 🙂 🙂
